A Prophet of the Lord

Our sweet prophet, President Gordon B. Hinkley, passed away yesterday evening. He served as prophet for our church for 15 years, since 1995. He worked so hard to spread the gospel throughout the world and so many lives have been touched because of his continuous efforts. One of his first acts as president was to send out a proclamation to the world concerning the family. He made it very clear to all the members of the church that we needed to be seen and heard as much as possible so we could share the gospel of Jesus Christ with everyone. He set a goal to have 100 functioning temples on the earth by the end of year 2000 and worked hard to see that it happened. There are now 124 working temples with another 12 under construction or announced.

What a man that President Hinckley was. President Hinckley was the prophet for my adult life to this point. I loved to hear him speak and to see his sweet smile and the twinkle in his eyes. He has made a profound impact on me, as he has focused on the youth of the church, while I have spent the last 7 years working with the Young Women. He has spoken to them, taught them, testified to them, and loved them, in a way the we have all gained from him.
As for my kids it is the only Prophet that they know at all and it has been an experince to be able to teach and explain to the girls about Pres. Hinckley and what changes are to come.

MaCayela's special hair do

So MaCayela wanted to do her own hair for school yesterday and I so I decided to let her. I tried to talk her out of some of the clips but she said that more makes you more beautiful. So I let her do it and go to school that way. When we walked in to class Mrs. Lewis and Mrs. Wahlen both commented on how wonderful it looked, and she just beamed that she had done it all by herself.

She'll be coming around the mountain when she comes.

It has now been a week since my grandma has come down the hill and been staying with us, and it has been one of the most pleasant visits. While my aunt and uncle are out of town, my Grandma Marianne has been staying with my family. I was a little nervous at first not know what to expect while having her here, and how it would be with our kids and the chaos that goes along with it. But it truly has been a wonderful experience as we have gotten to know her better and my kids have gotten to spend time with her. I have loved our late night and nap time talks and surely enjoyed having another pair of hands around when it comes to entertaining the kids while preparing meals. The kids have loved having somebody else to play games and cards with, do puzzles and read to them. She is a wonderful lady with so many stories and insights to share. I do not look forward to the day that she will leave for she will be missed and our home will feel a little empty for a time. We love her so much and Cherish this opportunity that we have been given to spend this time with her. (even if it was by default.)

Vineyard time!!!

"...Always abounding in Good Works"

It was that time again... vineyard time. And since we are to be always abounding in good works I extended to my girls the option that they had to either work in the vineyard or babysit so someone else could be to the vineyard. It was formal night and so I had 4 girls that definitely didn't want to go to the vineyard and mess up their nail *eye roll* so they were all vying for babysitting jobs. I had planned on staying home due to sick kids all week, but one of my sweet laurels called Friday night and begged to babysit. So, I was off to the vineyard... and actually looking forward to the opportunity to serve.

This year there is quite a lot of work to do in the vineyard. We had to do some sort of grafting type work by planting a vine down into the ground and next to the post. We also had some post to replace all before we pruned and tied. But the weather was beautiful (not to cold, foggy or windy) and the company of our ward was great. Sometime we forget how good it feels to spend our time doing something for someone else with no gain for ourselves.

15 Therefore, I would that ye should be steadfast and immovable, always abounding in good works, that Christ, the Lord God Omnipotent, may seal you his, that you may be brought to heaven, that ye may have everlasting salvation and eternal life, through the wisdom, and power, and justice, and mercy of him who created all things, in heaven and in earth, who is God above all. Amen.

So this is the new theme for Young Women and Young Men this year. In being our Young Women President for our ward I got to introduce the theme on the first Sunday. (probably one of my least favorite parts of the calling is teaching. But oh how I love my girls and would do anything for them, so I teach even when I'm uncomfortable.)

Wow, what a powerful message it is for the youth, and the rest of us for that matter. To be able to be

"steadfast and unchanging,

immovable and unwavering

a strong and holy light

a sure and steady guide

when all the world is falling apart"

Our youth have lots of challenges facing them, and I pray that they can stand strong in the decisions and choices that they have to make. I love working with the youth and the wonderful choice spirits that they are. (especially my girls)

What kinda mom does that...

Okay so I feel absolutely horrible. I am the worst mom ever.... Okay maybe not ever, but I feel pretty bad. Life seems crazy and I somewhere along the line lost my mind. Dallin has not been feeling well off and on lately and on top of all that he is teething. So, needless to say we have had our share of nasty noses, horrible coughs and constantly disgusting diapers . They say that it is an old wives tale that teething children get yucky diapers, but it is true with my kids. All three of them have been that way. Well on Sunday I changed Dallins diaper and got him ready for church and off we went. Dallin gets passed around quite a bit being that Corey is in the clerks office and I am in Young Womens, so he spends the third hour with the ladies in Relief Society. Which are just wonderful to help me out each week. After church I am on my own as Corey stays and does tithing and "clerk stuff", this week Corey made it home around 6:30pm. By the time Corey came home this Sunday I was like... here, you wanted a boy, here is your son. The kid was just fussy!! (which should've been my first clue, being that Dallin is usually my easy going mellow kid.) By 7:15 or so we decide to give up and get him ready for bed, I just couldn't take anymore fussing. As Corey undress Dallin to change him into pj's I hear him yelling at me from the bedroom to come help. The poor kid had had a yucky yucky diaper for quite some time, I mean like sense church, that had leaked out the sides and dried to his rear by this time. The poor kid had to go strait to the bath just to get his bum clean without him screaming as I tried to wipe.
Due to all this failure on his moms part, Dallin now has a bright red bum with sores from sitting in it. (hence the reason that there are no pictures as to why I am a bad mom.) And due to his teeth and cold he is always in need of a diaper change, which I am trying to change right away.
I feel so bad for the little guy and hope that I am not the only mom that forgets the little things like changing diapers.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

Can you believe it is 2008! We had a great low key New Years eve. We enjoyed food, fun and friends. What more could you ask for. We spent the evening at DeLynn and LaShays house with the Hummans and all the kids. We had planned on setting the clocks forward 2 hours, watching the ball drop on central time and going home at 10:30 to get some much need sleep for the little ones. Needless to say we looked up from playing games and it was 10 mins to 11:00 and the kids (all the girls, the 2 babies were already in bed.) were still doing pretty good, so we decided to stay. At midnight the kids had a blast pulling all the poppers and screaming.I think that the girls actually had more fun cleaning up all the confetti and streamers. It was really nice to be all together with the girls and our friends to ring in the new year.
